WHY WE LOVE FOOD SCALES
If there’s one product recommendation we have in terms of nutrition, it will always be a food scale. Blindly following a diet is just not for us, and if you’re reading this, it’s probably not for you either. It is incredibly easy to overeat, or to misjudge serving sizes. Weighing your food when tracking macros assures that you’re not only getting the correct portions you need in order for your body to thrive, but that you’re non unintentionally consuming calories you didn’t mean to!
WHY WEIGH YOUR FOOD AS OPPOSED TO OTHER FORMS OF MEASUREMENT?
Let’s put it this way, if you have a cup of food, the amount of food in that cup is going to depend on a couple of different factors.
- How much are you packing your rice down?
- What size pieces did you cut the food?
- Is it overflowing, or underfilled?
Another example, ‘counting’ your serving size, is also a bad way to measure your macros. Why? Think about the average bag of chips – the sizes, density, etc. will vary drastically per chip – if you’re counting out 16 chips, that could weigh 20g or 40g, pretty easily. The difference in those calories can add up really quickly over the course of days and weeks.
When you use a food scale to weigh your food, the weight of that food will be the same regardless of how you cut it, how you fill it, how many items there are, etc. This is why it’s the most accurate way to measure just how much you’re actually eating.

When it comes to eating for your goals, it may be a long process until you reach your final goal - nothing happens overnight! That’s why if you’re going to be on a fitness journey, you should develop habits that are sustainable. You don’t want to get burnt out on eating the same “healthy” meal every day.
YOU’LL BECOME A PRO IN NO TIME
Once you start weighing your food, you’ll eventually start getting really good at eyeballing portion sizes - which is another huge pro! You’ll start to know what 4oz of ground turkey looks like, 50g of egg whites, and so on. It becomes a great skill to have, especially when you’re rushing or forget a food scale.
IS IT INCONVENIENT?
Listen, we hate being inconvenienced too. The best way to make sure you’re not carrying a food scale in your purse is by meal prepping. Do one meal prep day where you pre-portion all of your food and put it in containers. That way, you can always grab and go! In our opinion, it’s much easier than eyeballing calories.
