How Kristi-Lee Transformed Her Mind & Body in 8 Weeks
Kristi-Lee was “sick and tired of being sick and tired,” and decided she was ready to make a change. Since then, she’s completed six 8-week strength-training challenges, lost 25 pounds, and changed her mentality towards health & wellness. After one full year of getting after her goals with FIT by Katy, she says her lifestyle completely transformed.
After trying several different programs, Kristi-Lee was able to stick with FIT by Katy challenges for the long haul and says nothing else compared. “The app is simple. It provides a video clip for me to watch for proper form. This feature is SO helpful, especially in the beginning when I was embarrassed to go to the gym and was worried I’d be seen using a machine improperly."
Initially, her goal was to hit a specific number on the scale. However, after completing several challenges and working with the FBK coaches, her mentality shifted: “Along with the help of my coach, completing multiple challenges helped me realize that it was deeper than being skinny. I broke through mental barriers and learned that NSVs (non-scale victories) were just as important! I was no longer focused on simply hitting that certain number on the scale that I was initially set on achieving. I really found my ‘why’ during these challenges.”
Working with a coach also helped Kristi-Lee discover the goals she really wanted to chase. “I finally realized that it was never just about being skinny. It was about finding my happiness and finding my why on this fitness journey. There are definitely days where I still struggle with body image. I manage it by reminding myself that I am not the only person going through this and I have the #FBKFitFam to lean on. These feelings are okay and normal to have but it’s so important that you don’t dwell on them and give up because you’ve come too far to throw in the towel.
We know that continuing with your fitness journey can be difficult at times, that’s why Kristi-Lee says finding her ‘why’ and sticking to it was key for success. “I read something that Katy and Haydn posted once: when motivation leaves, let discipline takeover. And it’s so true, we aren’t always going to be motivated, so we have to stay disciplined. On the days that I don’t want to get up and get it done I remind myself of my ‘why’ and I make the time to continue getting after my goals.”
In addition to focusing on staying disciplined, Kristi-Lee found endless support through the FIT by Katy community with thousands of like-minded women. “Once a #FBKFitFam member ALWAYS a #FBKFitFam member! It’s where my life changed! It’s where everything started and I am so humbled by this life-changing experience and this incredibly supportive community. If there is a woman out there that wants to join an 8-week challenge but hasn’t fully committed I would tell her that the best investment you could ever make is in yourself! You have nothing to lose but inches and pounds 😉 and everything to gain like happiness, friendships, confidence, strength and more!"
How Jihanna Lost 16 lbs. with FIT by Katy
We caught up with Jihanna for a little Q&A on how FIT by Katy helped her reach her goals and win 1st place in the 2021 Winter Challenge.
Q: WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO START WORKING OUT?
A: I gained a significant amount of weight during the pandemic. I would see myself during Zoom meetings and just feel so ashamed of how much weight I had gained. I’ll be graduating with a Master’s next year and entering into the sports industry. I wanted to ensure I felt physically confident to match how confident I felt about my skills and abilities to be successful in this new career path.
Q: WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY
A: Prioritizing and making time to workout was challenging. I work from home full-time, I’m a full-time student, and a mom of 2. It was giving myself permission to make sacrifices so that I could continue to grow into the best version of myself.
Q: YOUR PROGRESS PICTURES ARE AMAZING, BUT WHEN DID YOU FIRST REALIZE YOU WERE MAKING PROGRESS?
A: After the first week, I saw immediate changes. I was worried I would begin to plateau but with every check-in, my coach and I would see amazing progress. You won’t see progress unless you put in the work and I definitely did that. I followed the system, I may have had a french fry or two when it wasn’t a cheat meal, but it was about staying focused on the goal at hand and doing what I needed to do to get there.
Q: IF YOU DON’T MIND SHARING, HOW MANY TOTAL POUNDS/INCHES DID YOU LOSE DOING #FBKPRESENT?
A: I lost 16 pounds. At first, the weight wasn’t shedding right away, the scale barely moved in the first 2 weeks. But those 1-2 pounds every week add up!
Q: WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART ABOUT THE CHALLENGE?
A: Macros were difficult in the beginning. It took practice to understand what I could eat, how much, and to realize this was the fuel I needed for my body to have the energy to work out and do cardio.
Q: HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED?
A: Take your progress pictures! Having a physical thing to look at provided me so much motivation to keep getting better and to keep seeing changes. Overeating or not working out was not worth messing up the progress.
Q: HOW HAVE FBK CHALLENGES HELPED YOU?
A: I have finally found a way for sustainable fitness and health and I can even do it at home! The best part is that I didn’t need a gym to kill this challenge, to lose 16 pounds, to have the confidence to post selfies or wear shorts, or to be out in public without makeup.
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE JOINING THEIR FIRST FBK CHALLENGE?
A: This challenge will help you grow toward the best version of yourself, the version you’ve always wanted to see. Use the tools (app, check-ins, coach, forum) to stay accountable. This challenge is what you put into it. I gave it my all and as a result, I am that much closer to the best version of me.
