How To Overcome Gym Anxiety

We get it, going to the gym can be intimidating. We’ve all been there: feeling super self-conscious while getting a lift in and second-guessing ourselves. Wondering if all eyes are on you and judging your every move. Gym anxiety is a real thing and is experienced by many people, no matter their age, gender, or how fit they are. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to ease the feeling of self-consciousness at the gym. Follow these tips and you’ll be walking into the gym fully confident for your next workout!

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Be prepared for your workout by checking the Sesh app before you go to the gym. Watch all of the videos available so you know what you’re getting yourself into. If an exercise uses a machine you’re not familiar with, look it up on YouTube! Even if the machine is a different brand, they’ll most likely function similarly. Being prepared will ease your nerves and give you a confidence boost from the start.

EASE YOUR WAY IN

When you first start out, try getting your workouts in during “off” hours, like mid-morning or mid-afternoon. This will give you a chance to get comfortable with the layout of the gym and where machines and equipment are. As you get used to the format of the space, you’ll feel better going during busy, peak hours.

BRING A FRIEND

There’s nothing better than getting a sweat sesh in with a friend! Having a friend with you will lower your stress level and make the workout feel more fun. Plus, there’s nothing better than built-in accountability.

USE YOUR RESOURCES

You’re paying for your gym membership just like everyone else! Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re unsure of how a machine works or what the procedure is for cleaning equipment, just ask. The staff is there to help and will be happy to make sure you know exactly what you’re doing.

WHAT GOOD IS PUTTING IT OFF DOING FOR YOU TODAY?

Walk in the gym with confidence! Throw on an outfit that is comfortable and makes you feel like a baddie. Crank the volume up in your headphones and get ready to crush it. It’s all about mindset, so get your game face on and own it.

Everyone in the gym is more focused on themselves than you, we promise. By going in prepared and getting the lay of the land, you’ll feel more confident when it’s time to work out. Grab a friend for some accountability or just ask a staff member for help if you need a little guidance. You’ve got this!
